About the company
CB Carpentry is a residential carpentry contractor serving homeowners across Massachusetts, from the South Shore and Boston to MetroWest, Worcester and Lowell. We handle the full range of carpentry a home needs: rough carpentry and framing, finish carpentry and trim, cabinetry and built-in storage, exterior carpentry like decks, porches and pergolas, doors and windows, and hardwood flooring. Whether it is one room of trim or a new addition, you work directly with licensed carpenters who care how the finished job looks.
Your Premier Local Massachusetts Carpenter
A good carpenter does more than cut wood. A good residential carpenter plans the work, protects your home while working in it, and builds things that stay straight, tight and solid for years. That is how we approach every project, whether we are framing a dormer, installing crown molding in a 100-year-old colonial or building built-in bookshelves around a fireplace.
We are licensed in Massachusetts, bonded and insured, and most jobs start within a week or two of approval. Every project begins with a site visit and a clear quote, because no two homes are the same.

Our carpentry services
01 Rough Carpentry
Rough carpentry is the structure behind your walls, floors and roof. We frame room additions, dormers and bump-outs, build interior walls, install beams when load-bearing walls come out, frame roofs, ceilings and soffits, and install and repair subfloors. Rough carpentry solves problems you can feel: bouncy floors, sagging ceilings, rotted sills and rooms that are simply too small. It is the right call for families who need more space and homeowners opening up floor plans. Straight, square, code-ready framing makes everything that follows, from drywall to trim to flooring, go in better and last longer.
Every job is framed to code and ready for inspection.
Rough Carpentry02 Finish Carpentry
Finish carpentry is the woodwork you see every day. We install crown molding, baseboards and shoe molding, wainscoting, beadboard, picture-frame panel molding and shiplap accent walls, along with door and window casing, stair treads, railings, balusters and newel posts. It turns plain rooms into finished ones and is often the most affordable way to add character to a newer home or restore it in an older one. Our finish work is coped, mitered and scribed to fit walls and floors as they really are, so joints stay tight and paint lines stay clean long after the job is done.
We prep everything so painting goes quickly.
Finish Carpentry03 Cabinetry & Storage
Cabinetry and built-ins make a home easier to live in. We install kitchen and bathroom cabinets, islands and panel-ready appliance surrounds, and we build custom built-ins: bookshelves, window seats, media walls, bars, mudroom benches, closet systems and pantry shelving. Built-ins solve the problem of awkward spaces and not enough storage, especially in older Massachusetts homes with small closets. Because they are fitted to the room and trimmed into the walls, they look like they came with the house. Cabinets are set level and plumb even on uneven floors, so doors line up and countertops sit flat.
Shelves are built to hold real weight without sagging.
Cabinetry & Storage04 Exterior Carpentry
Exterior carpentry has to stand up to New England weather. We build new decks, porches, entry landings and steps on frost-depth footings, and we repair or rebuild old ones. We build backyard structures such as pergolas, arbors, gazebos, pavilions, cabanas and cedar outdoor shower enclosures, and install wooden fences and gates. On the house itself, we install cedar shingles, siding and exterior trim and replace rotted soffit and fascia. Near the coast, we use rot-resistant materials and corrosion-resistant fasteners. Done right, exterior carpentry keeps water out of your walls and gives you more space to enjoy outside.
Decks get flashed ledgers and code-compliant railings.
Exterior Carpentry05 Doors & Windows
Doors and windows get used every day, so small installation problems are hard to ignore. We hang interior doors, including pre-hung, slab, pocket, bifold and barn doors, and install exterior entry, storm and patio doors with proper flashing and sill pans so water stays out. We reframe window and door openings, install headers for new or larger openings, repair rotted sills and jambs, and install locks, hinges and hardware. If a door sticks, rubs or will not latch, it can usually be fixed. Every opening is finished with casing that matches the rest of your trim.
Each door is adjusted so it swings and latches smoothly.
Doors & Windows06 Flooring
We install solid and engineered hardwood flooring and take care of the carpentry around it. That starts below the boards: checking, refastening and leveling the subfloor so the new floor lies flat and quiet. Solid hardwood suits most above-grade rooms and older homes with original wood floors; engineered hardwood is better over concrete, in basements and in spaces with bigger humidity swings. We finish every floor with clean transitions, thresholds and stair nosing, and reinstall or replace baseboard and shoe molding so the room looks complete. New floors and matching stair treads tie a home together.
Stairs can be matched to the new floors as well.
Flooring
Residential Carpentry for Older Massachusetts Homes
Many Massachusetts homes are 50 to 150 years old. They have plaster walls, settled floors, full-size lumber and trim profiles that are no longer made. Working in them takes patience: matching trim, tying new framing into old, and leveling cabinets and floors on surfaces that are anything but level. It is work we enjoy, and it is what makes a renovation look like it was always part of the house.
Signs It Is Time to Call a Carpenter
Soft wood around sills, decks or trim, doors that stick, floors that bounce or squeak, loose stair railings, sagging shelves and rooms that never felt finished are all signs. So is simply needing more space or storage. Most of these problems get more expensive the longer they wait.
Why Choose a Licensed Carpenter
Structural work, decks and additions in Massachusetts need permits and inspections. A licensed, insured carpenter protects you and your home, follows the building code and stands behind the work.

About CB Carpentry
CB Carpentry has been building and finishing homes in Massachusetts for three years. We are a local, licensed carpentry company, and we built the business on one idea: do the work the way you would want it done in your own house.
That means showing up when we say we will, keeping the work area clean, explaining what we find, and not covering up problems. It also means sweating the small details, like a tight miter, an even reveal around a door or a built-in that is scribed perfectly to an old wall.
From framing and structural work to trim, built-ins, stairs, decks and outdoor showers, we handle the whole range of residential carpentry. Call or text to tell us about your project.
